Mi padre era quien muchas veces proponía esas salidas:
—Oye, ¿vamos a almorzar a alguna parte? ¿Vamos a tomar once?
Recuerdo perfectamente quiénes estábamos presentes: mi padre, mi madre, mi hermana menor, Claudia, mi sobrina y yo. Éramos cinco personas.
Tomamos once tranquilamente.
Seguimos avanzando.
Dentro del automóvil estábamos bastante callados. No ocurría nada especial.
Yo me quedé mirando fijamente.
Pasaron varios minutos.
No dije nada.
Simplemente observaba.
Me preguntó:
—Oye, ¿estás mirando la luz?
—Sí —le respondí.
Ella también la estaba observando.
—Qué raro —me dijo—.
no emitía ningún sonido perceptible.
Nada.
No escuché motores.
No escuché turbinas.
No volví a verlo.
Mi padre, mi madre, Claudia, mi sobrina y yo.
Me dio vergüenza.
Hoy me gustaría muchísimo recuperarlo.
Volvería a escuchar nuestros gritos, nuestras preguntas y nuestras reacciones.
Y volvería a escuchar a mi padre.

Fernando Aguilar places his experience in southern Chile, during a family trip from Frutillar to Puerto Montt, in the Los Lagos Region. Although he initially remembered the events as having occurred in March 2009, a later piece of evidence—the publication date of a photograph connected to that day—places them approximately in January of that same year.
Over time, Fernando has retained a detailed memory of that night and of the members of his family who were present. His account takes us to the highways of southern Chile and to an experience that, many years later, continues to hold a significant place in his memory.
Make yourself comfortable, because a new UFO Testimony begins here.
Before I tell you what happened that night, there is something about myself that I feel I need to explain. Throughout my life, things have happened to me that I would describe as strange. I have had premonitions, dreams, and experiences that are difficult to interpret. On other occasions, I have even sensed the presence or appearance of entities. Those are stories that could be told separately, but I mention them because, from my perspective, they are all part of the same broader set of experiences.
One of the episodes that affected me most involved my father. He died in 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, and even before that I had felt that he was in danger. I remember mentioning it to the partner I was with at the time. Of course, I cannot prove that this premonition had any objective connection to what later happened, but it was significant to me and became one more among several similar experiences I have had throughout my life.
I mention this because on that night in 2009, when my entire family witnessed something that I still cannot explain, I had also experienced a difficult-to-describe feeling beforehand.
At the time, my family lived in Puerto Montt. We had a habit of occasionally going out for lunch or once—the traditional Chilean late-afternoon meal—in different places throughout southern Chile. My father was often the one who suggested these outings:
“Hey, why don’t we go somewhere for lunch? Why don’t we go have once?”
We would visit Puerto Varas, Frutillar, and other places in the area. We also traveled to other parts of southern Chile because we had always enjoyed exploring those landscapes.
That day was no exception. We decided to go to Frutillar for one of those traditional German-influenced onces by Lake Llanquihue.
However, from early on, I remember that the day seemed strange to me.
The afternoon was very misty. As darkness began to fall, the Moon had an appearance that particularly caught my attention. At one point, it even seemed reddish to me. Later, it looked like an extremely bright full Moon, illuminating the landscape intensely. It caught my attention so much that I decided to photograph it. I still have photographs from that moment.
You have to remember that this was 2009. Cell phones at the time, when they did have cameras, offered image quality far inferior to what we have today. That was why it was common to use small, separate digital cameras. I had one of those cameras with me.
As the afternoon went on, I began to feel something strange in the atmosphere. I do not know whether the other members of my family felt the same thing. I could never speak for them. But I clearly remember that feeling.
It was as though something was out of the ordinary.
I took several photographs of the Moon. Obviously, their resolution cannot be compared with what modern equipment can produce, but those images remained as part of my memories of that day.
We eventually went to have once on the shore of Lake Llanquihue. Over the years, I have also heard other strange stories connected with that area. I even heard the story of a neighboring married couple whose boat was reportedly found, while the people themselves, according to what I was told, were never found. I do not necessarily connect that case with our experience; I mention it only because it is part of the stories I have heard about those places.
That night, however, we still had no idea that we were about to experience our own story.
I remember perfectly who was there: my father, my mother, my younger sister Claudia, my niece, and me. There were five of us.
We had once without incident. We ate and stayed there until fairly late. I have the impression that we were among the last people to leave that café or pastry shop. By the time we finally left, it was already dark.
It must have been around nine o’clock at night, or perhaps a little later.
We got into the car and began the drive back from Frutillar to Puerto Montt.
My father was driving, and I was sitting in the front passenger seat, as I usually did. In the back were my mother, my sister Claudia, and my niece. I particularly remember that Claudia was sitting in the middle. That detail might seem irrelevant, but it later became important because, from that position, she could also see what was happening ahead of us and along the side of the highway.
To leave Frutillar, we had to cross the railroad tracks.
I remember that place with extraordinary clarity.
My father slowed down or stopped to make sure that no train was coming. At that precise moment, I looked out the car window.
And I thought something.
I did not say it aloud. I did not mention it to anyone.
I thought:
“How incredible would it be to see a UFO?”
It was only a thought.
I did not even take it particularly seriously myself. Had I said it aloud, someone probably would have laughed or thought I was saying something silly. So it remained entirely in my head.
We crossed the tracks and continued on our way.
We took Route 5 toward Puerto Montt. The highway was extraordinarily empty. I remember very little traffic. A bus passed us traveling in the opposite direction, but there were practically no other cars around us.
There was a sense of isolation.
The highway, the darkness, the southern landscape, and that intensely bright Moon created an atmosphere I can still remember.
The Moon was incredibly bright. My impression was that there was so much light that you could almost have driven without using the car’s headlights. I am not saying that we did so, only that this conveys how intense I remember the nighttime illumination being.
We continued driving.
Inside the car, we were fairly quiet. Nothing unusual was happening.
Until, after traveling several kilometers from Frutillar, I noticed a white light on the right-hand side of the highway.
It was round.
Very white.
And very sharply defined.
At first, it did not seem extraordinary to me. It could easily have been a streetlight, a light bulb, an exterior light belonging to some facility, an industrial site, a factory, or any other building located alongside the highway.
Besides, it was not high in the sky.
It seemed to be approximately at the height of a streetlight.
So initially, I did not think I was looking at anything unusual.
The problem began when we kept driving.
The car continued down the highway, but that light apparently remained at the same distance.
We kept moving.
And moving.
And the light remained there.
That began to make me uneasy.
If it had been a stationary light beside the highway, sooner or later we should have approached it, driven past it, and then left it behind.
But that did not happen.
I kept staring at it.
The light remained extremely circular, compact, and intensely white. From our perspective, it seemed to maintain approximately the same position as we continued moving.
Several minutes passed.
I said nothing.
I simply watched.
Little by little, I began to think that something about it was strange.
Then Claudia, my sister, who was sitting in the middle of the back seat, realized that I had been staring at the same place for quite some time.
She asked me:
“Hey, are you looking at that light?”
“Yes,” I replied.
She had been watching it too.
“That’s strange,” she said. “It’s been there for a while. It isn’t moving.”
And then she expressed almost exactly what I had been thinking for several minutes: given the distance we had traveled, we should already have passed it.
At that moment, everything changed.
Until then, it could have been something only I had noticed. But Claudia had independently noticed the same phenomenon without my having told her beforehand what to think.
When we started talking about the light, everyone else began paying attention.
My father.
My mother.
My niece.
Eventually, all of us were watching it.
Five people were looking at the same light.
We continued moving, and from our perspective, it remained there, maintaining approximately the same altitude and distance.
And then something happened that I still find very difficult to organize in my memory.
I have always described it by saying that it was as though “a piece of the film had been erased.”
I am not claiming that there was actually any missing time or that there is some extraordinary explanation for that sensation. What I am trying to describe is the discontinuity I remember between watching that small white light and suddenly finding myself confronted with something completely different.
At some point, that light stopped being the focus of our attention.
What appeared in front of us was enormous.
It was coming from the opposite direction or approaching our position, and we could see it through the windshield.
It was a gigantic triangular structure.
Dark.
Practically black.
I cannot say with certainty whether its surface was actually black or whether we simply perceived it that way because of the nighttime conditions. What allowed us to make it out was primarily the contrast of its outline against the brightness of the sky and the Moon.
As a purely personal estimate, I would say that at one point during the observation it may have been around three hundred meters above us. It then passed directly over our position.
I do not remember seeing any visible lights on the structure when it was above us.
What impressed me most was its size and its silence.
The small white light we had been watching was no longer there. In my memory, the transition between that light and the appearance of the triangular object is closely connected, although I cannot objectively state that one thing literally “transformed” into the other. What I can say is how we experienced the sequence: for several minutes, we observed an apparently stationary light, and afterward we found ourselves watching that enormous triangular structure.
We all became nervous.
My father was probably the most shaken.
I immediately remembered that I had the digital camera in the glove compartment. I took it out and began trying to photograph the object.
I kept telling my father:
“Stop, stop, stop! Pull over! Park on the shoulder!”
My father, extremely nervous, replied with something along the lines of:
“But where do you want me to stop?”
Eventually, he managed to pull the car over to the side of the highway.
I was the only one who got out.
I do not remember feeling fear in the same way the others did. I was nervous, naturally, but above all I felt an overwhelming need to look, to understand, and to document what was happening.
And then I remembered the thought I had had while crossing the railroad tracks in Frutillar:
“How incredible would it be to see a UFO?”
I had thought that perhaps half an hour earlier.
Now I was standing outside the car, camera in hand, looking upward.
I tried to take photographs. I managed to capture at least one image that I still have. Something resembling an outline can be distinguished in it, although the limited resolution of digital cameras at the time and the difficult conditions of nighttime photography have to be taken into account.
Then I switched the camera to video mode.
I recorded it.
In that recording, as I remember and as we were later able to confirm when we played it back, a silhouette could be made out above us.
Our voices were also recorded.
We were shouting and talking over one another, trying to understand what we were seeing.
“Look!”
“What is this?”
The object passed directly over us.
The car was stopped on the shoulder.
I do not remember any other vehicles passing during those moments.
It was just us and that structure.
When it passed overhead, I was able to confirm something that remains one of the most baffling aspects of the memory:
it made no perceptible sound.
Nothing.
I heard no engines.
I heard no turbines.
I heard none of the noise one would expect from an object of that size moving at such a low altitude.
I could hear only the surrounding environment, the air, and the wind.
And it moved slowly.
That slowness gave me the impression that the object was deliberately allowing us to observe it. That, however, is my personal interpretation. I have no way of knowing what it was, whether it had occupants, or, much less, what their intentions might have been. What I can say is that, at the time, I felt as though it had wanted to be seen.
It then continued along its trajectory.
I remember it turning roughly in the direction of Lake Llanquihue. From that point onward, it began moving faster and faster until I eventually lost sight of it.
It disappeared from my field of view.
I never saw it again.
We were deeply shaken.
What matters most to me is that I was not the only observer.
There were five of us.
My father, my mother, Claudia, my niece, and me.
All five of us witnessed that episode.
After my father died in 2020, four of us remained who could still talk about that experience.
For the rest of the drive to Puerto Montt, we talked about what had happened. We were frightened, excited, and trying to understand what we had seen.
When we finally arrived in Puerto Montt, I connected the camera to the television.
And we watched the video.
We played it on a larger screen, and there, within the limitations of the recording, I remember that the silhouette could be seen. Our voices and shouts could also be heard.
At the time, one common way of backing up digital files was to burn them onto compact discs. That was exactly what I did.
I saved the video to a CD.
I was fully aware that this was a recording that needed to be preserved. An experience like that does not happen every day.
The problem is that, over the years, I lost track of exactly where that file was.
I still have numerous old discs that were used for backups, but many of them are scratched and some can no longer be read properly by the drives I have tried. Once or twice, I have gone through the trouble of checking those discs, searching through the old backups for the video, but so far I have been unable to recover it.
It may be lost.
Or it may still be on one of those CDs that I currently cannot read.
I am certain that I backed it up because I clearly remember taking that precaution after what we had experienced.
The photograph, however, survived.
I posted it on Facebook, and I can still find it. In fact, the date of that post—January 12, 2009—is what later allowed me to realize that my original recollection that the episode had happened in March was probably mistaken.
I did, however, make what I now consider a major mistake: I did not post the video as well.
I was embarrassed.
I thought about what might happen if other people saw it, if comments started appearing, or if the recording began receiving attention that I did not want. Today we would say it might “go viral,” although at the time that concept did not yet have the everyday meaning for me that it has today.
So I chose to keep it stored away.
Today, I would very much like to recover it.
And not only because of the UFO.
There is a much more personal reason.
My father’s voice can be heard in that video.
You can hear him talking, shouting, frightened by what we were observing.
My father is no longer here.
So recovering that file would also mean recovering a few seconds of his voice, a spontaneous reaction from him, a moment we experienced together that was captured by that camera.
For me, the value of the video is no longer exclusively its potential value as evidence related to a strange aerial phenomenon.
Now it is also memory.
It is family.
It is my father.
Over the years, I have thought many times about that night and also about the coincidence of having wished to see a UFO shortly before everything happened.
I cannot prove that the two things were connected.
However, personally, I have always felt that, in some difficult-to-explain way, I “called” it. I had thought about it only minutes earlier, and in addition, for hours beforehand I had felt that there was something strange in the atmosphere.
I fully understand that this interpretation may seem very difficult to accept.
I also understand that human beings try to find connections between events and that memory can reinterpret experiences over time. That is why I do not intend to present my feeling as a proven explanation. I can only describe what I thought, what I felt, and what subsequently happened.
And it happened in front of five people.
Over time, I have also connected this experience with other strange events in my life. I am a musician, and I am personally interested in the possibility that certain phenomena might somehow be related to frequencies. It is an idea that forms part of my later reflections and of my attempts to understand experiences for which, to this day, I have no definitive explanation.
There is also another piece of background within my own family.
My mother has also told, for many years, of an experience that supposedly occurred in the early 1970s, probably around 1972 or 1973.
She is a teacher.
When she first began working, she taught at a rural school near Osorno. To get there, she had to take a bus very early every morning—a micro, as we call it in Chile—which took her to the school where she taught.
One morning, during one of those journeys, something happened that she never forgot.
According to her account, two objects or craft appeared.
Unlike the triangular object that we would observe decades later, these had numerous lights around them. My mother remembers that they seemed to move along the same route as the bus.
And she was reportedly not the only witness.
The other people traveling on the bus saw them as well.
The two objects remained alongside the route for some time, apparently accompanying the vehicle as it traveled through that rural area.
My mother remembers more details about that experience—the location, the circumstances, and probably a more precise date—because she was the one who experienced it. I can only reproduce here what I remember from a story I heard her tell for many years.
But after our own experience in 2009, that old family story took on a different meaning for me.
I do not know what we saw that night on the highway.
I can describe it.
I can remember its shape.
I can talk about its silence.
I can tell you that there were five of us.
I can say that there was a photograph and that there was a video that my family later watched on the television.
But I cannot say what it was.
What I can say is that the experience left a profound impression on all of us and especially on me.
I would still like to recover that CD.
Perhaps some specialized procedure will someday make it possible to read one of those damaged discs and recover the file. If that happened, I would once again see the silhouette I remember above us. I would once again hear our shouts, our questions, and our reactions.
And I would hear my father again.
Perhaps that is now the most important reason to keep searching for it.
