A continuación, relataré ambas.

No estaba sola.

Case: The Leandro Vargas Case | Among the Shadows of Cunaco

Date of Incident: 1996
Approximate Time: 9:00 PM

Below, we share the testimony of Leandro Vargas, who, at six years old, experienced an event that would remain with him throughout his life. What began as a simple sighting eventually became a series of occurrences that, to this day, remain unexplained. As he himself states:

“I hope that one day I will be able to make contact and understand, even if only a small fragment of this phenomenon.”

A reflection that many people who investigate these subjects undoubtedly share.

Hello, my name is Leandro Vargas. I am originally from the O'Higgins Region, specifically from the municipality of Santa Cruz, Chile. Since I was very young, I have been fascinated by the UFO phenomenon. I am currently 33 years old and, throughout my life, I have witnessed several sightings. However, two experiences stand out above all the others and profoundly shaped my perception of reality. I will describe both of them below.

The first of these events occurred in 1996, when I was only six years old. We lived in the town of Cunaco, located just a few minutes from Santa Cruz. It was a particularly dark winter night. I remember lying in my bedroom when something happened that I would never forget.

Only three people lived in our house: my parents and me. Our home was surrounded by fields, and at that hour of the night, the silence was almost absolute. Around nine o’clock, my mother went outside to look for our cat. Suddenly, we heard a piercing scream that shattered the stillness of the night.

“A UFO!” she shouted in obvious distress.

My father immediately rushed outside to see what was happening and, to his astonishment, saw an extraordinary object hovering above our two-story house. It was a disc-shaped craft suspended motionless in the air. Despite the distance, lights could be seen in its central section, along with a series of windows distributed around its structure. Most impressive of all, it made no sound whatsoever.

Based on its apparent size and position, the craft seemed to be approximately 200 meters above the ground. It was not alone. A second object with similar characteristics remained farther back, as if accompanying the first.

As a child, I felt indescribable fear. I began crying uncontrollably because I was convinced the craft had come to take us away. My parents tried to reassure me, suggesting that they were probably airplanes or some effect caused by clouds and the darkness of the night.

However, even at that age, I was not convinced. What I was seeing was far too obvious and extraordinary to be mistaken for anything ordinary. The structures remained motionless, silent, and perfectly visible before our eyes.

Trying to prove there was no danger, my father picked me up and lifted me toward the craft. Far from calming me, this only intensified my fear. I cried even harder, and eventually we decided to go back inside the house.

We remained indoors for about an hour. None of us could stop thinking about what was happening outside. Finally, we gathered enough courage to go back out and see whether the strange lights were still there.

When we looked up at the sky again, the craft were already moving slowly northward toward Cerro Rucatalca in the Apalta area. Gradually they disappeared into the distance until they were completely gone.

Years passed, but I never forgot that experience.

In 2012, while studying at the University of Talca, I frequently traveled between Talca and Cunaco on weekends. One of those trips would provide me with a second sighting just as striking as the first.

It was a Sunday at around two in the afternoon. I was traveling on a minibus along the route connecting Santa Cruz and Curicó, specifically in the area known as Cuesta del Peral.

The vehicle was completely full. Most passengers were students listening to music through headphones, talking, or reading. I, meanwhile, was looking out the window, thinking about how quickly weekends with my family always seemed to end.

Suddenly, as we rounded one of the curves on the hillside road, something caught my attention.

From a ravine emerged a metallic sphere approximately three meters in diameter. Its silver surface reflected the sunlight intensely. It moved in a straight line while slowly ascending from the bottom of the ravine.

What was most surprising was its appearance. It had no wings, propellers, visible propulsion systems, or any feature that might explain how it remained suspended in the air. Nor could I see any seams, rivets, or screws. It appeared to be a perfectly smooth and flawless structure.

The sphere was about fifteen meters from the minibus, perhaps even closer.

I quickly looked around the vehicle, expecting someone else to be watching it, but no one seemed to have noticed. Everyone remained focused on their own activities.

Just as I was about to alert the other passengers, something impossible to explain occurred.

The sphere rose slightly and, in an instant, vanished completely before my eyes.

It did not speed away or disappear behind an obstacle. It simply ceased to be there.

To this day, I do not know how to describe exactly what happened. My impression was that the object passed into another dimension, changed state, or became invisible to human perception.

I still watch the sky attentively. I have also had recurring dreams involving humanoid beings and experiences that I consider prophetic, which I personally refer to as “visions of the future.”

I hope that one day we will better understand this phenomenon and perhaps establish some form of contact that can answer the countless questions that remain open. Even if we only manage to understand a small part of the mystery, I believe that would already be an extraordinary step forward.

Preocupada, mi madre empezó a hacerme preguntas.

Investigation by Iván Vega Recabal

Below, we present the testimony of Paula Alderete, from Temuco, Chile, who shares a series of experiences that began during her early childhood, around 1994, when she was only four years old, and continued to occur over the following years.

Her account takes us to southern Chile and reconstructs memories that remained with her from childhood into adulthood. Paula’s young age when these events began, along with the fact that her experiences continued over a period of several years, makes this a testimony worth hearing directly in her own words.

Make yourself comfortable, because a new UFO Testimony begins here.

It all began when I was only four years old. My mother remembers that one very cold winter night, at around three in the morning, she found me awake, staring intently out the window. At first, it may have seemed like an isolated behavior, one of those strange things that can happen with a young child. However, the same scene began repeating itself several times a week.

Concerned, my mother started asking me questions. She wanted to know whether I was having trouble sleeping, whether I was having nightmares or disturbing dreams, or whether there was some reason why I could not fall asleep and remained awake at such a late hour. My answer was simple, but probably unexpected: I told her that I was waiting for “the lights” to come.

My mother is quite a skeptical person, so at first she interpreted this as something perfectly normal within a child’s imagination. I was four years old, and from her perspective, it could simply have been the fantasy of a little girl.

But the nights continued to pass, and the situation persisted for approximately two weeks. My mother kept finding me awake and looking outside. Eventually, she scolded me, mainly because she was afraid I might get sick. As I mentioned earlier, it was the middle of winter, and we lived in Temuco, a city in southern Chile where nighttime temperatures during that season can easily approach 0°C.

That was when I explained something that made the situation take on a different meaning for her. I told her that whenever she began to wake up, “the lights” that came to see me would leave or disappear.

My mother was deeply unsettled by that explanation. As she recalls, I was a completely normal child. Furthermore, at that time—this was around 1994—I was not particularly exposed to television programs about UFOs, extraterrestrials, or similar phenomena. Nor was I surrounded by people who regularly discussed those subjects. For that reason, she found it difficult to understand where the ideas and descriptions I was beginning to express could have come from.

My mother’s uncertainty increased when I entered preschool. In the drawings and activities I did at school, I would usually depict scenes that were quite typical for a child my age: a house, a tree, the sky, the Sun, and myself. However, there was one recurring element that particularly caught people’s attention. Alongside those childhood landscapes, I would add what I described as “flying saucers,” as well as anthropomorphic beings appearing within the scenes.

Those elements became so frequent that my preschool teacher decided to call my mother to discuss what she had been noticing in my work. From an educational perspective, she ultimately considered that it could simply be part of a normal stage of childhood development and associated those figures with the possibility that I had imaginary friends.

For my mother, however, the matter was not so easy to dismiss, especially because the drawings coincided with what I had already been telling her for some time about those “lights.”

I also have memories of my own from those years. I remember, for example, riding home in the school van and seeing something that, both from my childhood perspective and from the image that remains in my memory today, looked like a flying saucer. I do not know whether there would be a more appropriate term to describe that supposed “craft”; that is simply the shape that remained imprinted in my mind and the closest way I can describe what I remember seeing.

I have another memory from a beach vacation in 1996. There, I once again saw objects that I associated with those I had seen before. I even still have a photograph from that trip in which I appear in my mother’s arms, and on the horizon I believe I can make out something that might resemble a craft passing in the distance. I am not claiming that the photograph can prove what that object actually was, but it is particularly meaningful to me because it comes from the very period when these episodes were a recurring part of my childhood.

Altogether, this subject remained present in my life, in one way or another, for approximately three years.

But there was one event that marked a turning point, because that time I was no longer the only person claiming to have seen something.

It happened on September 18, 1996. It was around noon, and my mother and I were traveling by car along Uruguay Street, near the Universidad de La Frontera in Temuco. At one point, I insistently asked her to please stop the car. I needed her to look up at the sky because I wanted her to see for herself that UFOs really did exist.

My mother then looked out the car window, toward the sky and to the west.

And this time, she saw something too.

According to her own recollection, she observed an object that looked like a flying saucer. When she talks about that moment, she says that one of the things that struck her most was the altitude at which it appeared to be traveling. From her perspective, it was too low to look like a conventional airplane, but at the same time—considering that it was during Chile’s Independence Day celebrations and that kites were commonly seen in the sky—it appeared to be too high to be one of them.

My mother also remembers that the object appeared to be rotating on its own axis. In addition, it seemed to shine from different angles. She has considered the possibility that sunlight may have been reflecting off its surface, producing that intense reflective effect. In any case, what matters in her recollection is that what she observed seemed strange enough that she could not immediately identify it as anything ordinary.

After that episode, we continued on our way to my grandparents’ house. My mother was deeply shaken, almost in a state of shock over what she had just witnessed. Her reaction was so noticeable that when one of my uncles arrived, he immediately asked what had happened.

The experience caused enough concern within the family that they decided to make an inquiry. According to my family’s recollection, they called an Air Force base to ask whether any airplane or small aircraft had been flying over the skies of Temuco around noon. The answer they received was no.

That information does not, by itself, explain what we observed that day, but it became part of our family’s memory of the event and raised even more questions about what had happened.

For many years, all of these episodes remained as memories from my childhood: the nights spent by the window, those “lights” I said I was waiting for, the drawings I made in preschool, the objects I remember seeing from the school van and during our vacation, and finally that event on September 18, 1996, when my mother also witnessed something she was unable to identify.

Ubicación exacta y coordenadas no determinadas

Ninguno dijo nada.

No sabíamos qué explicación darle a aquello.

Yo mismo no podía comprenderlo.

Jamás he visto un OVNI.

Case: Juan Carlos Rivera | The White-Haired Woman

Witness Name: Juan Carlos Rivera
City and Country: Route between Santiago and Ovalle, Chile
Date of Incident: 1991
Approximate Time: Beginning at 11:00 p.m.; the episode reportedly lasted approximately 3 hours
Number of Witnesses: 4 (Juan Carlos Rivera, his brother, and his two nephews, ages 6 and 7)
Location or Coordinates: Area near Santiago Airport, on a road running parallel to the airport toward Route 5 North. Exact location and coordinates unknown.

Investigation by Iván Vega Recabal

In 1991, Juan Carlos Rivera set out on a nighttime journey from Santiago, Chile, to the city of Ovalle, accompanied by his brother and his two nephews. The trip began near Santiago Airport, an area Juan Carlos was familiar with because of his previous experience as a non-commissioned officer in the Chilean Air Force.

What should have been an ordinary road trip became etched in his memory as an experience that was difficult to comprehend and that, as the years passed, would continue to leave him with profound questions. His account is the personal testimony of a night he could never forget.

Make yourself comfortable, because a new UFO Testimony begins here.

It was 1991. My brother, my two nephews, and I left Santiago, Chile, at approximately 11:00 p.m., heading for the city of Ovalle.

We departed from the area near the airport. My brother lived in Santiago and knew the traffic, streets, and different routes in and out of the city very well. He explained that we would take a road running parallel to the airport that, according to him, would lead us directly to Route 5 North without having to go through downtown Santiago. Trusting his knowledge of the area, we followed that road.

I also knew the airport area quite well because, during my time in the Chilean Air Force, I had been stationed with FACH Aviation Group No. 10, where I served as a non-commissioned officer. For that reason, I could recognize the area and orient myself with a fair degree of confidence.

I remember perfectly well that we headed north. I could even make out the lights at the northern end of the runway, a familiar reference point that confirmed our location.

After passing that area, we began entering an extremely dark zone.

The road was unpaved, and the headlights of our car, a Lada, did not illuminate very far ahead. The darkness seemed to swallow the road just a few meters beyond the headlights. We kept driving, and suddenly we found ourselves in a town.

It was a town I had never seen before.

I remember it as a very old-looking place. Its appearance immediately struck me as strange because, despite knowing the area, I could not identify it.

I asked my brother:

“Are you sure this is the right road?”

He told me it was.

Still, something inside me kept telling me that things did not add up. I had no memory of ever seeing that town, nor did I understand why we would have to pass through it to reach Route 5 North.

We continued on.

After approximately an hour on the road, we finally reached Route 5. But then I noticed something even more bewildering: we were traveling south, not north.

I pointed this out to my brother.

He insisted that everything was fine and kept driving.

Shortly afterward, something happened that left us completely confused: we found ourselves back at the same entrance where we had begun our journey.

It was obvious that, somehow, we had gone in a complete circle.

My brother insisted on taking the same road again. We did, beginning that strange journey all over again.

But on this second attempt, something happened that made the situation even more puzzling.

The town we had passed through before was no longer there.

We continued through the darkness, but we did not see any of the buildings I remembered from the first time. Everything was becoming increasingly strange.

There was another detail about the town that remained etched in my memory: I do not remember seeing a single store sign, advertisement, piece of graffiti, or inscription. Nothing. Absolutely nothing that could identify the place, give it a name, or suggest any of the normal activity one would expect in a town.

After going around a second time, we ended up back at the same entrance once again.

By then, nearly two and a half hours had passed.

Before leaving Santiago, I had personally filled the car’s fuel tank completely. Because of that, I knew quite clearly how much fuel we had when we began the trip.

We entered the road for a third time.

My brother continued driving, but at a certain point he no longer wanted to let go of the steering wheel. I was convinced that something was not right, and approximately halfway along the road, I decided to take over and drive the car myself.

I trusted my sense of direction. By observing the stars, I could also determine fairly clearly where north and south were. That was important to me: regardless of how confusing the road seemed, the sky still provided me with a point of reference.

I took the wheel and continued driving.

After nearly three hours from the beginning of that strange journey, I finally managed to reach the highway.

This time, I headed north.

My brother was bewildered. He could not understand what had just happened. Meanwhile, my nephews had apparently remained asleep in the back seat throughout the entire ordeal.

We continued our journey.

At some point, we reached a Copec gas station. Given the time of night, we estimated that we should have been somewhere near the Los Vilos area, so we decided to stop for fuel.

I handed the key to the gas station attendant and asked him to fill the tank.

The attendant inserted the nozzle and began pumping.

Then something unexpected happened.

The fuel backed up.

The tank was full.

Exactly as I had left it before we began the journey.

My brother and I looked at each other.

Neither of us said a word.

We had no explanation for it. We had been driving for hours—or at least that was our perception—yet the fuel tank appeared to still be full.

From that moment on, we barely spoke about what had happened for the rest of the journey.

We continued driving until we reached Ovalle.

The next day, I went to see my brother because I needed to talk to him about what had happened. I wanted to organize our memories, compare what each of us had seen, and try to understand how we had repeatedly ended up in the same place.

But my brother refused to talk to me.

And to this day, he still refuses to discuss what happened.

There is another important aspect of this story.

I had traveled with him because, at that time, I was beginning treatment for a serious bronchopulmonary condition. That illness was precisely why I had left the Air Force: I had been declared medically unfit for service. My health was extremely fragile, and the prognosis I had received was very unfavorable.

But the strangest part of that night was still to come.

I decided to speak with my nephews.

At the time, they were six and seven years old.

I asked whether they remembered anything about the trip, although the question seemed almost unnecessary to me because I had seen them sleeping throughout practically the entire strange journey.

Their answer left me bewildered.

They told me they had slept all night with the white-haired woman.

I did not understand what they meant.

Who was this woman?

Until that moment, neither my brother nor I had mentioned any woman. Nor had I seen a white-haired woman inside the car. Yet the children spoke of her as though her presence had been completely natural.

I was utterly baffled.

Time passed.

And then something else began to happen—something I had not expected either.

My health began to improve.

Little by little, I started feeling more energetic and stronger. I stopped coughing the way I had before, and the episodes in which I coughed up blood also disappeared. Each day, I felt a little better.

Three months later, it was time for my medical checkup.

During the appointment, the doctor asked me what treatment I was undergoing because my condition had improved considerably.

I could not understand it myself.

After receiving such a serious diagnosis, the recovery seemed extraordinary to me.

Today, all I can say is that I was 27 years old when I went through that critical period of my life and received that prognosis. Many years later, I was still playing sports and leading an active life. From that time onward, my perception of my own health changed completely.

But beyond my recovery, there are still questions I have never been able to answer.

What happened during those three hours?

Where were we really?

How did we end up at the same place again and again?

Why did that town appear during our first attempt and then vanish?

How could the fuel tank still appear to be full after we had been driving for so long?

And, above all:

Who was the white-haired woman my nephews spoke about?

I do not know.

Perhaps I never will.

Sometimes I wonder whether she could have been what some people call a being of light. Other times, I consider the possibility of guides, protectors, or some form of intelligence whose nature remains unknown to us.

I do not have a definitive answer.

I only know that after that experience, something changed profoundly in my life. My health improved, and so did the way I looked at existence. I feel that, somehow, the experience made me a better person.

I leave this story for each person to reflect upon.

We know very little about the universe, about our own existence, and about what might lie beyond the limits of what we currently understand.

And there is one more thing I want to make absolutely clear:

I have never seen a UFO.

I cannot claim that I encountered extraterrestrial beings that night, nor can I say that what happened was necessarily extraterrestrial in origin.

I can only attest to my own experience.

To what we lived through.

To those inexplicable hours.

And to one question that, after all these years, still remains with me:

Who was the white-haired woman?

Mis padres no creían mi relato.

Case: Verónica Mascaró | The Object That Covered the Sky Over Mendoza

Witness Name: Verónica Mascaró
City and Country: Mendoza, Argentina
Date of Incident: March or April 1983, during the Easter period
Approximate Time: Between 6:00 and 6:30 p.m.
Number of Witnesses: 2 (Verónica Mascaró as the primary witness and her mother as a partial witness for approximately 2 seconds)
Location: Corner of Coronel Rodríguez and Avelino Maure, Sixth Section, City of Mendoza, Argentina

Investigation by Iván Vega Recabal

Verónica was eight years old when she experienced something that would remain deeply connected to her childhood memories. The events date back to March or April 1983, during the Easter period, when she lived with her family in the Sixth Section of the city of Mendoza, Argentina.

Decades later, Verónica still remembers many details of that afternoon with remarkable clarity and has decided to share her experience publicly. Her account takes us back to an ordinary moment from her childhood, in a very different era from today and in a family setting that still holds an important place in her memory.

Make yourself comfortable, because a new UFO Testimony begins here.

My name is Verónica Mascaró. I currently live in Saint-Vincent, in Italy’s Aosta Valley, where I have resided since February 2024. However, the story I am about to tell happened a long time ago, when I was only eight years old and living in the province of Mendoza, Argentina.

My first visual contact experience occurred in 1983. I cannot remember the exact date, but I do remember that it was around Easter, so it must have happened sometime between March and April of that year. Despite all the time that has passed, certain images and sensations from that afternoon have remained etched in my memory.

I was roller-skating in the courtyard of my house. We lived on the corner of Coronel Rodríguez and Avelino Maure, in the Sixth Section of the city of Mendoza. Another family lives there now.

It was approximately six or six-thirty in the evening. There was still daylight.

As I was skating, at one point I noticed something strange: the intensity of the sunlight diminished. It was similar to what happens when a cloud passes in front of the Sun, although I remember the dimming seemed more intense than usual.

That caught my attention.

So I raised my head and looked up.

There was something enormous above me.

The first thing I could see was what, from my position, looked like a gigantic metallic ceiling. At that moment, I could not tell where the object began or ended because the courtyard of my house was rectangular and surrounded by walls. My field of view was limited by those walls, and because of the extraordinary apparent size of whatever was above me, I could only see part of its underside.

I remember that it seemed to cover not only the courtyard, but a considerably larger area.

I was also struck by how close it appeared to be. Over the years, I have tried to estimate the distance using references that a child could understand. My impression is that it was about fifteen meters above the ground, perhaps even less. To put it another way, I estimated the distance to be roughly equivalent to the height of a three-story building.

From below, I could see a dark gray, opaque, apparently metallic surface. The material appeared predominantly smooth, although there were some streaks or variations in its texture.

There were also three sections that I remember as shapes resembling trapezoids. They were the same dark gray color as the rest of the surface, but had a different relief or texture. Within those trapezoids, numerous tiny designs could be seen—a kind of texture or small pattern. In trying to explain their appearance, I have always compared them to certain decorative plasterwork on a wall: very small raised designs distributed across the surface.

I do not know whether it is easy to convey in words exactly what I observed. I was eight years old and, naturally, did not have the technical or geometric vocabulary that an adult might use. Nevertheless, that texture remained imprinted in my memory.

In the center of the underside of the object, I saw a large circular light. I initially remember it as orange, although for a few seconds I had the impression that it took on a yellowish hue.

Around that central light were smaller lights arranged in straight lines. Those rows of small lights appeared near each of the trapezoid-shaped sections I just described.

I observed all of this from below.

I was never able to see what the top of the object looked like.

I remained looking at it for approximately thirteen, fourteen, perhaps fifteen seconds. That may not sound like long, but to me they were some of the longest seconds of my life.

I stood completely still.

For many years, I have used words such as “paralyzed” or even “hypnotized” to describe my state, although I do not remember feeling that an external force was controlling my body. I think it was more likely the shock of what I was witnessing. I was conscious and carefully observing the details. My mind was trying to analyze whatever was above me, but at the same time I was profoundly astonished.

I was an eight-year-old girl trying to understand something for which I had no frame of reference.

Then the object began to leave.

I remember it ascending almost vertically, at something close to a ninety-degree angle, although with a slight tilt. It was precisely because of this trajectory that I was never able to clearly see its upper surface.

It was during this departure that, for the first time, I was able to understand its overall shape.

It was round.

The difference between the apparent size of the object and the dimensions of our courtyard was difficult for me to explain. Over the years, I found a simple comparison: imagine that my courtyard were a tiny square button measuring just one centimeter. In comparison, the object above my head would have been like the circular lid of a cooking pot measuring twenty-five or thirty centimeters across.

That, at least, is the impression of its proportions that stayed with me.

That is why, when I initially looked up, I could not make out its complete shape. It was too close and seemed too large. Only when it began moving away could I see it with enough perspective to distinguish its circular outline.

Its ascent was extraordinarily fast. According to my memory, it took approximately four or five seconds to disappear into the sky and vanish from sight.

There is an expression I used immediately afterward that I still remember because I said it to my mother. I told her that the object had “gone into the sky like a suppository.”

It may sound funny now, and I laugh about it myself when I remember it, but that was the comparison an eight-year-old girl came up with to explain what she had just witnessed.

The visual impression was truly strange: it seemed as though the blue sky were a piece of fabric and the object had passed through that surface to the other side. I am not claiming that this is literally what happened; it was simply how my eyes and my childhood mind interpreted its disappearance.

I remember another detail.

When the object began to leave, I felt a slight breeze over my head. It was similar to the air produced by a fan running gently. That current of air was enough to move my hair slightly.

The sound, however, was not loud.

I do not remember a roar or any deafening noise. It was a faint and peculiar sound that, for years, I have tried to describe by comparing it to the sound of a boomerang. It is difficult to put into words an auditory perception experienced for only a few seconds, but that is the association that remained in my memory.

My mother managed to see it for approximately two seconds.

I had called out to her and she came quickly, but by the time she looked up, the object was already moving away. As I remember it, by then it looked like a small circle against the sky. She managed to see something just before it disappeared, although she was never completely certain what she had seen.

That difference would become important later.

For me, the experience had lasted long enough for me to observe the object directly above my head and make out some of its details. My mother, on the other hand, had only witnessed the final moments of the phenomenon, when it was already much farther away.

Over the years, many people have said something understandable to me: if such a large object was so close, surely someone else should have seen it.

That is a question I have asked myself as well.

However, the entire episode lasted less than twenty seconds. Just think about how often we go several minutes without ever looking up at the sky. Twenty seconds can pass very quickly. Furthermore, my observation began from inside a courtyard enclosed by walls, and it happened at a time when there were no mobile phones with cameras readily available at all times.

Years later, when I was already an adult, I spoke with some neighbors in an attempt to find out whether anyone else remembered anything connected with that afternoon.

During my childhood, however, the situation was different.

My parents did not believe my account. My mother was also unsure about what she had managed to see during those very brief seconds. At the time, moreover, speaking publicly about UFOs or experiences of this kind could lead to ridicule. People who reported similar events were often regarded as imaginative, unstable, or even mentally ill.

My mother eventually took me to a psychiatrist because she wanted me to stop talking about what, according to her, I “believed I had seen.”

But to me, it was not a belief.

It was a memory.

Over the years, that situation continued to leave me with a feeling that is difficult to explain. On one occasion, much later, I finally said to a psychologist:

“Why are they trying to convince me that I didn’t see what I saw? No one can convince me that I didn’t see it.”

I was not trying to scientifically prove what that object had been. What I was defending was something far more personal: I knew that I had experienced it through my own perception and that the memory was still there.

I am now fifty-one years old, and I still regard that episode as my first close-range visual contact experience.

Afterward, I observed phenomena that I interpreted as UFOs on other occasions, although always from considerably greater distances, as is the case with most sightings reported by other people.

That sighting was different.

I never forgot that image.

And although so many years have passed, I have never forgotten the feeling of that little girl who, for a few seconds on an Easter afternoon in Mendoza, stopped skating, looked up, and tried to understand what it was that she was seeing above her head.
